Luca Maraschin
Senior Associate

Luca Maraschin is a Senior Associate in NSDV’s Mining and Environmental Law Department. He has experience in a wide range of regulatory matters across several sectors, including mining, oil & gas, renewable energy, and conservation. 

Of the many characteristics that endear Luca to his clients, his thorough commitment to projects is among the most notable.

In a litigation capacity, he has been involved in both civil and criminal environmental law matters before the High Court. In addition, he has conducted environmental legal due diligence and assisted in safety and health and environmental legal compliance audits.

Moreover, Luca has provided legal advice to mining and non-mining clients relating to, inter alia, environmental impact assessments and public participation processes in terms of the NEMA EIA Regulations; appeals in terms of the NEMA EIA Regulations and MPRDA; liability in terms of NEMA and ECA; compensation claims by operations-impacted communities; and the various statutory requirements for developments/operations prescribed by legislation such as the MPRDA, NEM: WA, NWA and WSA.

Prior to joining NSDV, Luca was an associate and sustainability consultant at specialist law firm Warburton Attorneys Inc., and IMBEWU Sustainability Legal Consultants respectively. Luca also served as a candidate attorney at Cullinan & Associates, an environmental law firm in Cape Town.
