Helyn is a consultant to NSDV. She specialises in general corporate and commercial law and mergers and acquisitions (both cross-border and domestic) and also has experience in corporate restructurings, joint ventures, broad-based black economic empowerment transactions and corporate governance, and advises a broad range of listed and unlisted clients in various jurisdictions and sectors, including the energy, mining, information and communications technology, retail and manufacturing sectors.

Helyn was previously a director of one of the bigger law firms in Sandton, Johannesburg, where she practised for over 10 years; prior to practising at another large Sandton law firm for 7 years, where she completed her articles of clerkship.

She has been recognised for her expertise in Corporate Law by Best Lawyers® during the years 2015 to 2025.

She has a Masters’ Certificate in Banking and Finance Law from the University of Witwatersrand and completed the Advanced Company Law I & II modules at the University of Witwatersrand.

​

She qualified, and was registered, as a Securities, Futures and Derivatives Representative with the former Financial Services Authority, UK during 2000 - 2002.

 

She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Economics, Legal Studies and English, and an LLB degree (with Dean’s commendation) at The University of Kwa-Zulu-Natal (Pietermaritzburg).
