Nicole Sebanz

Mining and Environmental Law

Nicole is an Associate in NSDV’s Mining and Environmental Law Department, whose professional interests lie predominantly with the environmental legal obligations associated with mining operations and renewable energy developments.


Over the last almost four years, Nicole has gained experience with numerous environmental and mining law related matters. In this regard, she has gained particular experience with drafting environmental legal due diligence reports, drafting environmental legal opinions, drafting environmental legal updates, compiling appeals, and responding statements with respect to the environmental authorisation application process, conducting environmental legal compliance audits, and giving presentations on developments in environmental law. She also has acquired High Court litigation experience involving declarator applications, applications to compel and urgent applications.


She obtained her BA Law degree from the University of Pretoria, after which she earned her LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Johannesburg.


Before joining the NSDV team, Nicole completed her articles at specialist environmental law firm, Warburton Attorneys Inc, and continued to practise as an associate there for a year. During her time there she also acted as a sustainability legal consultant at IMBEWU Sustainability Legal Specialists (Pty) Ltd.
